National Apprenticeship Week


WHEREAS, the Registered Apprenticeship system is a vital component in many high demand and high growth industries, and is recognized as a critical post-secondary education training ground for future employment; and

WHEREAS, the United States has pledged major resources to support apprenticeships in an effort to boost vocational education, workforce training, and job creation; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs provide opportunities for workers seeking a high-skilled, well-paying job and employers building a strong and qualified workforce; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth recognizes the integral role of apprenticeships in building the new Virginia economy; and

WHEREAS, sponsors and participating employers provide meaningful educational opportunities through on-the-job learning and related technical and theoretical instruction, which serves to enhance the economic vitality of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the second National Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity to recognize the positive impact apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the Virginia economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 14-20, 2016, as NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
