Myositis Awareness Month 2016

WHEREAS, Myositis describes a number of idiopathic myopathies that inflame the muscles that move the human body; and

WHEREAS, there are two kinds of Myositis: polymyositis and dermatomyositis; Polymyositis causes muscle weakness, usually in the muscles closet to the trunk of the body; Dermatomyositis causes muscle weakness and skin rashes; and

WHEREAS, symptoms of myositis may include difficulty walking, standing, or quickly moving; trouble swallowing or breathing; muscle pain and soreness; and fatigue; and

WHEREAS, education and support for patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers is essential to the overall health of Myositis patients; and

WHEREAS, Myositis Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about Myositis and its available treatments;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 2016 as MYOSITIS AWARENESS MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
