Military Spouse Appreciation Day 2015


WHEREAS, hundreds ofthousands of brave Americans demonstrate their courage and dedication to freedom by serving in the Armed Forces of the United States on Active Duty or in the National Guard and Reserves, and more than half of these men and women have a committed spouse; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is home to more than 76,000 strong, supportive, and resilient military spouses who are devoted to both their family and country; and

WHEREAS, sixty-eight percent of military spouses volunteer in local communities and organizations; and

WHEREAS, military spouses continue to make significant contributions to family, schools, communities, the Commonwealth, and the nation despite prolonged and repeated absences of the service member; and

WHEREAS, Military Spouse Appreciation Day is an opportunity to acknowledge the unyielding love and support of military spouses, and honor their numerous sacrifices for our country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 8, 2015, as MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
