Memorial Day 2015

WHEREAS, throughout the history of our great Commonwealth and nation, our men and women in uniform have risked their lives to protect the interests of our country and defend our freedoms; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is blessed to be the home of more than 800,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, who have shown courage and valor, often in the face of grave danger; and

WHEREAS, on this Memorial Day, Virginians remember those who have given their lives for this country, and comfort the families and friends who lost a loved one, as we are forever indebted to the service members who have died in defense of the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, as we reflect upon the enormous contributions to our Commonwealth and country of our fallen heroes, we also pay tribute to a new generation of Virginians who have chosen careers in the United States Armed Forces, as they have committed to sustaining this legacy of unyielding patriotism; and

WHEREAS, Memorial Day is an opportunity to commemorate the courageous men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all veterans of the U.S. Military who have served our country with honor and dignity;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 25, 2015, as MEMORIAL DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
