Larry J. Sabato Day

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato is a native of Norfolk, Virginia; and 

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato has served as a professor at the University of Virginia for nearly four decades; and

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato is director and founder of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, which promotes citizen participation in government and the value of politics; and

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato has impacted the lives of tens of thousands of students, many of whom have become leaders in the Commonwealth and throughout the country; and

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato received the University of Virginia’s Thomas Jefferson Award in 2001 for exemplifying in character, work, and influence the principles and ideals of Thomas Jefferson and the objectives of the University of Virginia; and 

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato received an Emmy Award in 2013 for a television documentary promoting bipartisanship; and 

WHEREAS, Larry J. Sabato, through his teaching, writing, scholarship, and leadership, contributes greatly to improving political discourse, and strengthening the democratic process in the Commonwealth and the nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 3, 2014, as LARRY J. SABATO DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
