Korean American Day 2016


WHEREAS, on January 13, 1903, the arrival of 102 Korean immigrants to the United States initiated the first chapter of Korean immigration; and

WHEREAS, Korean Americans are important and valued members of communities throughout Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Korean immigrants and their descendants have contributed to all aspects of Virginian and American culture, commerce, and history for more than 100 years; and

WHEREAS, The Korean Economic Institute of America, located in Washington, D.C., hosts an annual luncheon on January 13 to celebrate the achievements of the Korean American community; and

WHEREAS, Korean American Day is an opportunity to recognize the large Korean American community in Virginia, whose abilities and contributions strengthen Virginia’s culture and economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize January 13, 2016, as KOREAN AMERICAN DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
