WHEREAS, healthcare facilities employ dedicated professionals who advocate for improving health and promoting patient and staff safety in order to minimize and prevent infections; and

WHEREAS, improved health practices, such as thorough hand washing, sterilization, and after-care can significantly reduce the risk and spread of infections; and

WHEREAS, preventing healthcare-associated infections can help reduce the burdensome cost of treatments; and

WHEREAS, Infection Prevention Week recognizes the thousands of healthcare workers educating individuals on proper infection prevention techniques, and serves as an opportunity to reduce infections through increased awareness of these techniques;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 19-25, 2015, as INFECTION PREVENTION WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
