In Honor Of Charlie Singleton

National Volunteer Fire Council Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

WHEREAS, Mr. Charlie Singleton received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Volunteer Fire Council, and is the first Virginian to receive this honor; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton has served as an active member of the Virginia volunteer fire service for more than 62 years, including more than 29 years with the Vienna Fire Department followed by his service with Ebony Volunteer Fire Department and the Amherst County Emergency Services Board; and

WHEREAS, for more than 50 years, Mr. Singleton has advocated for his fellow firefighters as a member of the Virginia State Firefighters Association, where he currently serves on the Executive Committee, representing more than 50 volunteer fire departments in six counties throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton supported all Virginia firefighters by serving for more than 30 years as Chairman or Co-Chairman of the Virginia State Firefighters Association Legislative Committee, representing the interests and voices of firefighters throughout the Commonwealth; Mr. Singleton has also worked to address the needs of firefighters at the national level; and 

WHEREAS, Mr. Singleton’s courage in the line of duty, dedication to keeping his community safe, and commitment to supporting his fellow firefighters demonstrate his leadership in the Commonwealth and our country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize Charlie Singleton for his distinguished service to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
