Hurricane and Flooding Preparedness Week 2016


WHEREAS, Virginia residents and businesses should understand how hurricane hazards such as storm surge, flooding, high winds, and tornadoes can affect their homes and communities; and

WHEREAS, Virginia residents should develop an appropriate emergency plan and prepare for major storms by stocking water, non-perishable food, a self-powered radio, and other emergency supplies; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth will observe a Hurricane and Emergency Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday August 5-7, 2016, to help Virginians purchase of emergency supplies; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and local emergency managers provide safety information and preparedness techniques, which all Virginians should be aware of before hurricane and flooding season officially begins on June 1;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize the week of May 22-28, 2016, as HURRICANE AND FLOODING PREPAREDNESS WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
