Fire And Emergency Medical Services Memorial Week

WHEREAS, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel play an essential role in saving lives and protecting property in communities throughout Virginia; and

WHEREAS, there were over 801,140 fire and over 1,217,791 EMS responses in Virginia in 2013; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is thankful for all Fire and EMS professionals who put their lives in danger in order to safeguard the lives and property of Virginians; and

WHEREAS, on the first Saturday of June, a statewide memorial service is held to pay tribute to the more than 240 firefighters and emergency medical services personnel who have paid the ultimate sacrifice; and

WHEREAS, four firefighters and emergency medical services personnel were lost serving the people of the Commonwealth in 2013, and will be recognized at the 2014 Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service; and

WHEREAS, Fire and Emergency Medical Services week is an opportunity for Virginians to stand with firefighters and emergency medical services personnel and honor their tremendous sacrifices and continued devotion to serving the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize June 8-14, 2014, as FIRE AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES MEMORIAL WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
