Family and Consumer Sciences Week


WHEREAS, the practices of family and consumer sciences seek to improve the quality of life for individuals and families; and

WHEREAS, family and consumer sciences provide research-based practical knowledge regarding everyday life, including life span development, personal behavior, housing and the environment, food, nutrition and health, apparel and textiles, and resource and personal financial management; and

WHEREAS, the study of family and consumer sciences assists youth, adult and key public stakeholders in making sound choices that result in healthy, productive and fulfilling lives; and

WHEREAS, within the field of family and consumer sciences, there are many professionals whose work assists individuals, families and communities in making informed decisions about their well-being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life; and

WHEREAS, numerous family and consumer sciences organizations and associations across the Commonwealth work to strengthen the welfare of mankind through public policy, professional development, outreach, and research; and

WHEREAS, February 8-14, 2015, is Family and Consumer Sciences Week in the Commonwealth of Virginia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize February 8-14, 2015, as FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
