Exceptional Children's Week 2016

WHEREAS, the Virginia Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children supports individuals who work with infants, toddlers, and young children with developmental delays and other disabilities by promoting collaborative partnerships, encouraging research and innovation, and spreading awareness of current issues influencing early childhood special education; and

WHEREAS, the Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia offers early intervention services for the more than 16,000 families of infants and toddlers with developmental delays and disabilities; and

WHEREAS, families across the Commonwealth have options to choose from quality early childhood programs because of such collaborative partnerships; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Early Childhood seeks to promote and recognize the work of early childhood special educators, related service providers, para-educators, and families of infants and young children with disabilities through the establishment of Exceptional Children's Week; and

WHEREAS, during the second week of May, Virginia celebrates Exceptional Children’s Week, through awareness activities and celebrations that honor teachers, families, administrators, others who support children with special needs;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 5-11, 2016, as EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN’S WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
