Digital Learning Day 2016


WHEREAS, Digital Learning Day is an annual celebration of great teaching practices, and showcases innovative teachers, leaders, and instructional technology programs that are improving student outcomes in K-12 schools; and

WHEREAS, digital learning and the effective use of technology can assist every teacher by allowing the real-time tracking of individual student progress and creating efficient learning processes that give teachers more flexibility and time to spend with each student; and

WHEREAS, when used effectively, modern technology can make understanding more accessible, and rich for all; and

WHEREAS, Digital Learning Day provides every teacher, student, parent, and school the opportunity to use technology to modernize, personalize, and improve learning; and 

WHEREAS, Digital Learning Day provides an opportunity for the education system to embrace new technologies that have the potential to positively transform its processes; and

WHEREAS, since Digital Learning Day’s inception four years ago, thousands of teachers and schools around the world have held local activities supporting the event; and

WHEREAS, the fifth national Digital Learning Day will take place on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, to help teachers, students, schools, parents, policymakers, and the public use high-quality digital learning;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize February 17, 2016, as DIGITAL LEARNING DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
