Diaper Need Awareness Week 2015

WHEREAS, national surveys conclude that nearly 48% of families report that they delay changing diapers, with one in three American families reporting the need for diapers; and

WHEREAS, obtaining a sufficient supply of diapers can pose financial difficulties for low-income families, as diapers cannot be bought with food stamps or WIC vouchers; and

WHEREAS, a supply of diapers is generally required for infants and toddlers to participate in quality childcare and early education programs; and

WHEREAS, addressing diaper needs can lead to economic opportunity for the state’s low-income families and improve the health of our communities; and

WHEREAS, Virginia is proud to be home to community organizations that recognize the importance of diapers and support their provision to low-income families;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 28 – October 4, 2015, as DIAPER NEED AWARENESS WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
