Day of Celebration of the Military Child


WHEREAS, millions of brave Americans are demonstrating their courage and commitment to freedom by serving in the Armed Services of the United States of America, both here and abroad; and

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Virginia has numerous active military installations and more than 840,000 veterans, with Hampton enjoying one of the greatest percentages of veteran-residents in the nation; and

WHEREAS, Hampton is recognized as a military-friendly community; and

WHEREAS, Children and youth of our service members and veterans are major contributors to our families and schools in the Hampton community and the entire Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Hamptonians are encouraged to pay tribute to our military children for their commitment, their sacrifice and their unconditional support of our service members, because when parents serve in the military, their children serve too; and

WHEREAS, the Hampton Military Affairs Committee and the Peninsula Town Center, working in conjunction with Hampton Public Schools, various military organizations, local businesses, and others, will conduct a second annual “Celebration of the Military Child” in the Peninsula Town Square and Midway from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26th;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 26th, 2014, as the DAY OF CELEBRATION OF THE MILITARY CHILD in the city of Hampton, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
