Country Music Month


WHEREAS, Virginia’s musical heritage includes such diverse genres as folk, gospel, rock and roll, and country; and

WHEREAS, Bristol, Virginia, prides itself as the birthplace of country music in honor of the 1927 Bristol Sessions, a series of commercial recording sessions sponsored by the Victor Talking Machine Company, which legendary country artist Johnny Cash referred to as “the single most important event in the history of country music;” and

WHEREAS, the Birthplace of Country Music Museum opened in August 2014 to celebrate the vibrant and enduring music culture of Southwest Virginia and to commemorate the historic 1927 Bristol Sessions; and

WHEREAS, Country Music Month is an opportunity to recognize the rich country music culture of Virginia and to celebrate its success and evolution across the United States;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 2015 as COUNTRY MUSIC MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
