Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation Awareness Day 2016


WHEREAS, Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) are a group of rare metabolic disorders that affect normal organ development and the neurological system, leaving children, adolescents, and adults impaired with significant physical and developmental disability; and

WHEREAS, lack of public awareness contributes to under-diagnosis and difficulties in accessing specialized services and rehabilitation; and

WHEREAS, early diagnosis of CDG is important to ensure timely management of clinical complications, genetic counseling, and therapeutic remedies; and

WHEREAS, CDG Awareness Day promotes understanding of the importance of accurate, timely diagnoses;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 16, 2016, as CONGENITAL DISORDERS OF GLYCOSYLATION AWARENESS DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
