Color the World Orange Day

WHEREAS, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) is a nerve disorder that causes chronic pain and usually occurs after an injury or trauma to a specific limb; and

WHEREAS, the symptoms of CRPS are often described as burning that is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury and can include extreme sensitivity to touch and swelling; and

WHEREAS, the average age of affected individuals is about 40, but CRPS can strike at any age and affects both men and women, though it is much more common in women; and

WHEREAS, currently there is no single diagnostic test to confirm CRPS, so increased public awareness of the symptoms and the syndrome is extremely important for early detection; and

WHEREAS, on November 2, 2015, members of the CRPS community will spread awareness with the second annual Color the World Orange Day to spread awareness of this poorly understood pain disorder;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 2, 2015, as COLOR THE WORLD ORANGE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
