Clinical Nurse Specialist Week


WHEREAS, there are more than 440 Clinical Nurse Specialists who work in hospitals and other health care settings throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists are uniquely prepared with advanced degrees in nursing practice, leadership skills, and expertise in evidence-based practice; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists improve clinical outcomes by providing direct patient care, expert consultation, monitoring quality of care, improving the communication between the health care team and family, and educating nurses and health care teams about new research, practice, innovations, and procedures; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists assist in bringing the best nursing care to patients and families; and

WHEREAS, the influence of Clinical Nurse Specialists in improving the overall health care system is seen in a range of specialties including adult gerontology, psychiatric and mental health, pediatric care, and women’s health; and

WHEREAS, Clinical Nurse Specialists are critical to the success of our evolving health care system, and it is important to recognize their achievement and sacrifices; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 1-7, 2016, as CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
