Campus Fire Safety Month


WHEREAS, the health and safety of all Virginians is important to the happiness, prosperity and well-being of our Commonwealth's families and communities; and

WHEREAS, educating a generation of fire-safe children and adults helps reduce future loss of life from fires; and

WHEREAS, the misuse of cooking appliances, over-loaded electrical circuits, and extension cords increase the risk of fires; and

WHEREAS, it is recognized that fire safety education is an effective method of reducing the occurrence of fires and reducing the resulting loss of life and property damage; and

WHEREAS, it is crucial to educate Virginians about the importance of fire safety so that these behaviors can help ensure their safety during their college years and beyond; and

WHEREAS, the Center for Campus Fire Safety recognizes September as Campus Fire Safety Month; and

WHEREAS, colleges and universities are encouraged to promote campus fire safety education and support efforts year-round by providing safe housing and safe training to students, faculty, and community organizations; and

WHEREAS, Campus Fire Safety Month is an opportunity to recognize the importance of fire education in preventing fire casualties;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 2014 as CAMPUS FIRE SAFETY MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
