Bully Free Day


WHEREAS, bullying occurs in our neighborhoods, playgrounds, schools, workplace, and online; and

WHEREAS, various researchers have concluded that bullying is the most common form of violence, affecting millions of Americans annually; and

WHEREAS, targets of bullying are more likely to acquire physical, emotional, and learning problems;

WHEREAS, children and adults who bully are at greater risk of engaging in more serious violent behaviors; and

WHEREAS, children and adults who witness bullying often feel less secure, more fearful, and intimated; and

WHEREAS, all Virginians must work together to increase awareness about bullying and how to prevent it; and

WHEREAS, on October 4, 2014, all Virginians are encouraged to participate in Bully Free Day;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 4, 2014, as BULLY FREE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
