Building Safety Month 2015

WHEREAS, safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of citizens is paramount to all building professionals in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, protection is realized through the devotion and dedication of the Commonwealth’s building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, property maintenance and fire prevention regulators, design community and construction industry, who work to ensure that our buildings are affordable and safe; and

WHEREAS, Virginia building safety professionals create and influence the built environment through consensus development and implementation of the highest quality codes that are recognized as among the best in the nation; and

WHEREAS, our Commonwealth’s continuing efforts to embrace emerging opportunities for integrating sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, as well as enhanced resilience into the construction process, give us confidence that structures throughout the Commonwealth are durable and reliable; and

WHEREAS, Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council and promoted statewide by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and Virginia Department of Fire Programs to remind the public about the critical role of the Commonwealth’s building safety professionals to ensure safe, efficient and livable buildings; and

WHEREAS, “Resilient Communities Start with Building Codes,” the theme for Building Safety Month, encourages all Virginians to recognize the importance of building and fire safety regulations; and

WHEREAS, in observance of Building Safety Month, Virginians are asked to consider projects to improve building safety and sustainability at home and in the community, and to acknowledge the essential services provided by Virginia’s building safety community in protecting lives and property;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe do hereby recognize May 2015 as BUILDING SAFETY MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of our citizens.
