Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2016


WHEREAS, the growing Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Virginia plays an essential role in shaping and advancing the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, AAPI men and women contribute to all areas of life in Virginia, including government, business, arts and sciences, medicine, law enforcement, and the military; and

WHEREAS, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is an opportunity to celebrate the hundreds of thousands of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Virginia, who strengthen Virginia’s economy, enrich the Commonwealth’s diverse culture, and invigorate our communities; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth is committed to providing comprehensive support  for the AAPI community by defending voting rights, ensuring that Virginia is welcoming to all people, maintaining a world class public education system, and building a more diverse economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 2016 as ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
