Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Awareness Day


WHEREAS, June 30, 2015, is the sixth annual Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) Awareness Day; and

WHEREAS, AMC is defined as multiple congenital joint contracture or multiple joints that are stuck in one position and have very little flexibility; and

WHEREAS, AMC is an umbrella diagnosis that occurs in approximately 1 in 3,000 live births; and

WHEREAS, AMC is caused by an unborn baby not moving properly during fetal development; and

WHEREAS, various physical and speech therapies, stretching and some surgical interventions can help improve the independence level and quality of life of people living with AMC; and

WHEREAS, on June 30, 2015, families across the globe will be wearing the color blue to honor and support those affected by AMC; and

WHEREAS, Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Support is a leading organization focused on uniting people with AMC and increasing public awareness;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize June 30, 2015, as ARTHROGRYPOSIS MULTIPLEX CONGENITA AWARENESS DAYin our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
