Armed Forces Day


WHEREAS; on May 16, 2015, the citizens of Virginia wish to honor and recognize the courage and dedication of those that volunteer to serve in our nation’s Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS; President Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday to recognize and honor those that have choose to serve in an effort to defend our nation both at home and abroad; and

WHEREAS; announced on August 31, 1949, Armed Forces Day combined separate days for all of our military branches in to one day to thank all of our Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS; we welcome the opportunity to pay special tribute to those brave men and women who help keep our nation safe through their bravery each and every day; and

WHEREAS; it is requested of Virginian’s on this day to express their gratitude to those who are serving or who have served in order to protect the freedoms that our country enjoys;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 16, 2015, as ARMED FORCES DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
