American Heart Month


WHEREAS, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, taking more than 600,000 lives each year; and

WHEREAS, while anyone, including children, can develop heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and several other medical conditions as well as lifestyle choices are all key risk factors for developing it later in life; and

WHEREAS, individuals can take several steps to reduce their risk for heart disease including maintaining a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and seeking regular checkups with their physicians; and

WHEREAS, February is American Heart Month, a time to increase awareness about heart disease and learn more about the preventative measures one can take to reduce their own risk; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize February 2016 as AMERICAN HEART MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
