Amateur Radio Week


WHEREAS, Virginia is home to more than 19,000 radio amateurs; and 

WHEREAS, Virginia recognizes and appreciates the diligence of these “hams” who also serve as weather spotters in the Skywarn program of the US Government Weather Bureau; and

WHEREAS, radio amateurs are on alert for tornadoes, floods, severe winter weather, or any other local emergency and use their communications skills to assist local and state government officials; and

WHEREAS, Virginia radio amateurs generously donate time and equipment to provide communications support to local service clubs and organizations, and charities; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Radio Amateurs continue to improve their communications skills by operating the twenty-four hour emergency simulation known as 'Field Day' on June 28-29, 2014;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize June 22-28, 2014, as AMATEUR RADIO WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
