Addiction Recovery Workforce Development Week


WHEREAS, untreated addiction devastates the mind, body, and spirit, but with appropriate treatment and ongoing support, those affected can and do recover; and

WHEREAS, it is critical that state and local government works together with treatment professionals and communities across the Commonwealth to reduce the negative consequences of addiction, provide access to effective services, and promote healthy living; and

WHEREAS, we pay special tribute to the dedicated addiction and treatment professionals who guide people through the treatment and recovery process; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Association of Addiction Professionals (VAAP), NAADAC – The Association for Addiction Professionals, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services invite Virginians to participate in this week’s various programs and ceremonies, including the Virginia Summer Institute for Addiction Studies Conference; and

WHEREAS, by sharing their stories and celebrating recovery, individuals who have conquered addiction inspire those still suffering to seek support and strive to overcome their own addiction;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize July 13-19, 2014, as ADDICTION RECOVERY WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
