85th Anniversary of the Virginia Diner


WHEREAS, since 1929, the Virginia Diner has been a proud family owned and operated business in the Town of Wakefield, Virginia, the heart of Virginia peanut country; and

WHEREAS, locals affectionately refer to the VirginiaDiner as “A Legend in a Nutshell,” a place where local farmers, fire fighters, teachers, nurses, and other community and regional leaders gather early in the morning to enjoy home style cooking; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Diner provides customers with peanuts from local fields, including many of the same peanut delicacies found on Mrs. Davis’ original 1929 menu; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Diner peanut business has grown into an acclaimed national and international gourmet mail order business, proudly displaying the high quality Virginia’s Finest® designation awarded by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Diner has helped the Commonwealth gain a reputation for agricultural excellence in the domestic and international marketplace through its participation in targeted industry trade shows, as a mainstay at the Virginia Food and Beverage Expo, and as a loyal supporter of the Virginia’s Finest® marketing program; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Diner celebrates 85 years of serving Virginians;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize the year of 2014, as the 85TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VIRGINIA DINER in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
