60th Anniversary of Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Richmond

WHEREAS, the Salvation Army Red Shield Boys Club began serving the youth of Richmond in 1947, and has continued to do so through the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club since 1954; and

WHEREAS, on October 6, 2014, the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Richmond celebrates 60 years of programming for children ages 6 to 18; and

WHEREAS, members enjoy game and meeting rooms, a library, a clinic, a lunchroom, an indoor pool, and a gymnasium; and

WHEREAS, as part of the Boys & Girls Club “Power Hour”, club members are able to partake in programs focused on reading abilities, study skills, research skills, and more; and

WHEREAS, other programs offered include senior fellowship, music programs, sports, cultural, and fine arts, and more; and

WHEREAS, by providing a safe environment to grow and learn, the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Richmond has played a critical role in the lives of thousands of young people, setting them on a path to success;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 6, 2014, as the 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF SALVATION ARMY BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF RICHMOND in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
