50th Anniversary of Richmond Montessori School


WHEREAS, Richmond Montessori School follows the principles and educational pedagogy established by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1907, which are still implemented in over 20,000 schools in 110 countries across the globe; and

WHEREAS, Richmond Montessori continues to practice Montessori’s principles and practices, recognizing that education is an aid to life and supports each child’s growth in personal independence and self-motivation, while setting the foundation for a genuine, life-long love of learning; and

WHEREAS, located in Henrico County, Richmond Montessori School is committed to preparing students to be successful in the future with a rigorous academic atmosphere emphasizing 21st-century skills; and

WHEREAS, the school opened its doors in 1966, and its current student body, ages two to 14, represents over 30 countries and 33 different zip codes, exemplifying how Richmond Montessori School has grown into a richly diverse community over the past 50 years; and

WHEREAS, it is the only dually-accredited Montessori school, with accreditations from the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and the American Montessori Society, in Henrico County; and

WHEREAS, the faculty, parents, and community of Richmond Montessori School remain committed to the school’s mission of providing its students with a nurturing, stimulating educational experience that inspires academic excellence;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize the 50th ANNIVERSARY OF RICHMOND MONTESSORI SCHOOL in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
