40th Anniversary of School of Richmond Ballet


WHEREAS, since 1975, The School of Richmond Ballet has fostered, promoted, and preserved the continuing evolution of the art of ballet; and

WHEREAS, The School of Richmond Ballet helped form what is now known as the Richmond Ballet, which, in 1984, became the first professional ballet company in the Commonwealth, and, by1990, was declared the State Ballet of Virginia by then Governor Douglas Wilder; and 

WHEREAS, adhering to its mission to awaken and uplift the human spirit, The School of Richmond Ballet and the Richmond Ballet have become one of the country’s premier dance organizations, entertaining thousands with more than 50 performances of six major productions year-round; and

WHEREAS, The School of Ballet is an important educational experience for the more than 700 students it teaches and plays a critical role in the development of its many professional dancers, apprentices, and trainees; and

WHEREAS, The School of Richmond Ballet celebrates its 40th anniversary of inspiring and contributing to excellence in the performing arts with the production of The Enchanted Toy Shop at the Carpenter Theatre on Saturday, April 25; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 27, 2015, as the 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SCHOOL OF RICHMOND BALLET in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
