3rd Annual Alumni Charity Challenge

WHEREAS, it is important to recognize days in which Virginians are encouraged to make an intentional and united effort to be of service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, the Alumni Charity Challenge is working to address the unmet needs of people, fill geographical gaps in service delivery, loosen constraints faced by providers, and break down barriers people face in accessing the charitable feeding networking; and

WHEREAS,  the Alumni Charity Challenge is an annual event that was established in 2013 that transcends politics and religious differences to unite people of all faiths, races, cultures and backgrounds with a shared goal of helping those in need and improving their own communities; and

WHEREAS, from 2013 to 2014, more than 13 alumni chapters  of Commonwealth of Virginia colleges and universities participated in the event, resulting in the collection of 8,425 pounds of canned goods that were donated to the Central Virginia Food Bank; and.

WHEREAS, on September 30, 2015, the VCU Alumni RVA GOLD Chapter will host the 3rd Annual Alumni Charity Challenge and citizens of Virginia are encouraged to join to make a concerted effort to feed the hungry and end hunger insecurity with a goal of collecting 15,000 pounds of canned goods within 3 hours;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize September 30, 2015, as the 3rd ANNUAL ALUMNI CHARITY CHALLENGE in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
