25th Anniversary of the Northern Virginia Urban League


WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Urban League (NOVAUL) was founded in 1990 as an affiliate organization of the National Urban League to provide direct services to support Northern Virginia’s most disadvantaged communities; and

WHEREAS, what was once headquarters for the largest domestic slave trading firm in America is now the headquarters of NOVAUL and home of the Freedom House Museum; and

WHEREAS, this historical museum that shares a headquarters with NOVAUL is a reminder of the triumph of the human spirit to survive and thrive even in the worst of circumstances; and

WHEREAS, NOVAUL promotes education within disadvantaged communities and helps to ensure that individuals have access to affordable housing, quality education, healthcare, and excellent jobs and economic equality; and

WHEREAS, on April 24, 2015, NOVAUL celebrates 25 years of empowering communities and changing lives in the Northern Virginia community by employing the National Urban League’s five-point strategy, tailored to local needs, in order to implement the mission of the Urban League movement;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize April 24, 2015, as the 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NOTHERN VIRGINIA URBAN LEAGUE in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
