2017 Youth Art Month

WHEREAS, youth art education is a viable component of elementary and secondary education that helps young people grow and develop to be able to compete in the global market, building a stronger new Virginia economy; and

WHEREAS, youth art education increases community understanding and interest in art; and

WHEREAS, through art education, students gain a deeper appreciation of multicultural values, better creative problem-solving strengths, and improved critical thinking abilities; and

WHEREAS, art education helps students develop lifelong skills, including language development, inventiveness, motor skills, visual learning, and decision making; and

WHEREAS, art education interrelates student learning in art production, art history, art criticism, and aesthetics; and  

WHEREAS, during Youth Art Month we recognize the contributions made by art educators across the Commonwealth to the development and learning of Virginia students;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 2017 as YOUTH ART MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
