2017 Siberian Husky Week


WHEREAS, the Siberian Husky breed was originally developed by the Chukchi people of northeastern Asia as an endurance sled dog; and

WHEREAS, established in 1938, the Siberian Husky Club of America, Incorporated, produces pure-bred Siberian Huskies through selective breeding programs and education; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the Siberian Husky Club of America, Inc., is to educate members and the general public about the Siberian Husky breed and to urge breeders to adhere to the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club; and

WHEREAS, the Siberian Husky Club of America, Inc., also protects and advances the interests of the breed through a code of ethics, and encourages sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, sled dog races, and performance events; and

WHEREAS, the Siberian Husky Club of America, Inc., will hold the 2017 SHCA National Specialty in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to honor Siberian Huskies, enthusiasts, and owners through events and presentations; and

WHEREAS, Siberian Husky Week honors all Siberian Husky enthusiasts and educates the general public on the responsibilities and ownership of the breed;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize October 23-28, 2017, as SIBERIAN HUSKY WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
