2017 National Engineers Week


WHEREAS, Virginia is committed to training individuals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs and degrees; and

WHEREAS, engineers are professional practitioners within the STEM field who use scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to solve technical, societal, and commercial problems; and

WHEREAS, in a 21st century economy, engineers face many challenges when developing sustainable structures and systems; and 

WHEREAS, the District of Columbia Council of Engineering and Architectural Societies (DCCEAS) helps engineering, architectural, and technically-related organizations in the District of Columbia metropolitan area render public service and advance the professions through public interest, scientific, and educational pursuits; and

WHEREAS, engineers and architects working in the Commonwealth of Virginia participate in DCCEAS and their member organizations; and

WHEREAS, February 19-25, 2017, is National Engineers Week, which celebrates the contributions engineers make to society and encourages young adults and children to further their education in the field of engineering;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize February 19-25, 2017, as NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
