2017 National EMS Memorial Bike Ride Day


WHEREAS, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride honors Emergency Medical Services personnel by organizing and implementing long distance cycling events that memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve every day, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, Inc. supports the National EMS Memorial Service in its efforts to honor, recognize, and remember the loss of fellow EMS personnel and the support it provides to the families of those who have died in service; and

WHEREAS, the 2017 National EMS Memorial Bike Ride began in Boston on May 12, traveled to Arlington, Virginia, on May 19, continued from Arlington on May 21, and concludes on this day in Richmond, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, this event brings attention to the accomplishments of all EMS personnel, and works to educate communities about the need for improved safety standards, injury prevention, disability tracking, and death benefits for EMS personnel and their families; and

WHEREAS, the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride promotes healthy lifestyles for EMS providers through physical activity, nutrition, and mental health wellness initiatives; and

WHEREAS, citizens across Virginia benefit on a daily basis from the knowledge and skills of highly trained Emergency Medical Service providers, and it is appropriate to recognize their value and accomplishments;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize May 23, 2017, as NATIONAL EMS MEMORIAL BIKE RIDE DAY in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
