2017 National Apprenticeship Month


WHEREAS, the Registered Apprenticeship system is a vital component in many high demand and high growth industries, and is recognized as a critical post-secondary education training ground for future employment; and

WHEREAS,  the Registered Apprenticeship system is celebrating its 80th year from the inception of the Fitzgerald Act that created America’s employment training option; and

WHEREAS,our youth can participate in Youth Registered Apprenticeship within their high school and capture those credits and experience toward the adult Registered Apprenticeship Program; and

WHEREAS, the business community, parents, and students can work together along with the school administration and staff to create the workforce pipeline most relevant to their area; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship allows for talent recruitment that engages our potential workforce from all populations, abilities, and cultures; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship helps to innovate new industry workforce models and meets the need of emerging sectors; and

WHEREAS, Practitioners in Workforce Development can add Registered Apprenticeship to the menu of options that keep Americans in lifelong learning and career changes; and

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship combines the traditions of historical mentorship with the technological advances of modern learning; and

WHEREAS, National Apprenticeship Month is an opportunity to recognize the positive impact apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses, and the Virginia economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize November 2017 as NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
