10th Anniversary of Lead Virginia


WHEREAS, since 2005, LEAD Virginia has created a nonpartisan network of leaders seeking to build strong social capital and shape Virginia for a successful future; and

WHEREAS, LEAD Virginia is known for its annual sequence of monthly programs, in which participants are asked to challenge preconceived notions, reflect, and evaluate major issues and opportunities facing the Commonwealth to further increase their knowledge and understanding of leadership; and

WHEREAS, LEAD Virginia’s program is grounded in the theory of social capital, when relations among participants change ways that facilitate actions; and

WHEREAS, the curriculum theme of LEAD Virginia expresses “the Old Dominion to new Virginia” helping shape Virginia by understanding how our past helps us recognize the future; and

WHEREAS, the original inaugural class of 39 participants has grown to 450 active community and regional leaders; and

WHEREAS, LEAD Virginia celebrates its 10th anniversary of inspiring and contributing to excellence in leadership throughout the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terence R. McAuliffe, do hereby recognize March 2015 as the 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF LEAD VIRGINIA in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
