Guests of the Governor and First Lady at the 2017 State of the Commonwealth Address
RICHMOND – The following guests of the Governor will be seated in the gallery with First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe for the State of the Commonwealth Address:
Dr. Scott Brabrand, Superintendent of Lynchburg Public Schools
As Superintendent of Lynchburg City Public Schools, Dr. Brabrand has worked with the First Lady’s to expand access to healthy nutrition for Virginia students. Dr. Brabrand’s leaderships has helped Lynchburg achieve a 20 percent increase in school participation in student nutrition programs just one year.
Vice Admiral Cutler Dawson, USN (Ret.)
Vice Admiral Cutler Dawson, USN (Ret.) is the current President/CEO of Navy Federal Credit Union.
Mr. Gene E. Fisher, Vice Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors
Mr. Gene Fisher currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors, and has served on the Frederick County Board of Supervisors since 2004.
Ms. Terry Garrett
Ms. Terry Garrett is a respected community leader and a sponsor to recovering addicts and former offenders. After a felony conviction left her without a voice in Virginia’s society, Ms. Garrett’s civil rights were restored this past August and she proudly voted for the first time in her life this past election.
Mr. Deotis Roberts
Mr. Deotis Roberts proudly served in the U.S. Army Airborne Division and is a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm. Upon returning to civilian life, Deotis struggled to secure reliable housing for 11 years. Deotis finally received permanent housing, thanks to the great work of Virginia’s efforts to functionally end veteran homelessness.
The Talmadge Family
Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Talmadge of the Virginia National Guard is presently serving on deployment to Kuwait with the 29th Infantry Division. Shawn’s wife Melana and the couple’s two children will attend this evening.
