Job Creator Appreciation Month

WHEREAS, our job creators and their commitment to our Commonwealth are among the chief reasons Virginia has been recognized repeatedly as the top state in which to do business by leading publications and industry observers; and

WHEREAS, in this difficult time of persistently high national unemployment and economic uncertainty, many Virginia businesses have been able to succeed and create new jobs for our citizens; and

WHEREAS, there is no substitute for a good job––a job provides dignity, hope, and fulfillment and represents the most certain path to a great quality of life; and

WHEREAS, Virginia has a diverse, dynamic and well-educated workforce that can out-compete and out-work any workforce anywhere; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 150,000 employers in Virginia responsible for 2,940,200 private sector jobs; and

WHEREAS, 65 percent of new jobs have been created by small firms in recent years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor; and

WHEREAS, job creators take risks to compete and expand in the marketplace, and their willingness to take those risks means jobs for our citizens, economic development in our communities and opportunity for Virginians and should be recognized and praised;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert F. McDonnell, do hereby recognize November 2011 as JOB CREATOR APPRECIATION MONTH in our COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens; and

BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED, that helping the private sector create good jobs for our citizens is the top priority of the McDonnell Administration and the foremost issue of our time.
